The impact resistance of glass is evaluated based on the IK rating specified in the IEC 62262 standard.
It measures how well the glass can withstand the impact of a 500g object dropped from a certain height:
E = m × g × h (where m is mass, g = 9.81 m/s², and h is drop height).
For example:
- A 500 g object dropped from 20 cm ≈ 1 J (IK06)
- From 40 cm ≈ 2 J (IK07)
- From 70 cm ≈ 5 J (IK08)
